Adult ESL Lessons: Weekly Schedules (Beginner)

This is Lesson 10, “Weekly Schedules,” from our book of beginner-level adult ESL lessons, “ESL Pathways: Foundations”. The lesson starts with a short story about two women’s schedules, followed by a dialogue between them and comprehension questions. Students then fill in a chart about their weekly schedules, answer discussion questions, and complete a grammar review. ADULT ESL LESSONS: Weekly Schedules (Text-Only Version)

Anita and Marcia have busy schedules.

Anita is a housewife.  She is always busy.  On Mondays she buys groceries.  On Tuesdays she does the laundry.  On Wednesdays she does gardening and cleans outside the house.  On Thursdays she runs errands.  On Fridays she goes to yoga class.  On Saturdays she usually helps her children with their homework and then they all go out to eat.  They like to go to an Italian restaurant. On Sundays the family usually goes out for the day.  

Marcia is a sales representative.  She is usually busy, too.  She works from Monday to Friday.  After work on Mondays she goes to the gym.  She does aerobics there.  On Tuesdays she usually goes to the supermarket.  She buys groceries at the supermarket.  On Wednesdays she usually watches her favorite television shows.  She likes to watch evening soap operas.  On Thursdays she goes online.  She likes to look at fashion and travel websites.  On Fridays she likes to take a long bath and read a novel.  Marcia is engaged.  On Saturdays she and her fiancé like to go out to eat.  They like to go to a seafood restaurant.  On Sundays she and her fiancé like to take a drive.

Dialogue:  Anita and Marcia are chatting.  

Anita:  Hi Marcia, how are you?

Marcia:  Fine, thanks Anita.  How are you?

Anita:  I’m fine.  What are you going to do this week?

Marcia:  On Monday I’m going to work and then I’m going to the gym.  

Anita:  What do you do at the gym?

Marcia:  I do aerobics.

Anita:  What are you going to do on Tuesday?

Marcia:  After work I’m going grocery shopping.

Anita:  What are you going to do on Wednesday?

Marcia:  After work, I’m going to stay home and watch TV.

Anita:  What are you going to do on Thursday?

Marcia:  I want to check some travel information.

Anita:  Are you going on vacation this year?

Marcia:  Yes.  I’m planning to go to Egypt.

Anita:  Egypt?  That sounds exciting.

Marcia:  Yes, I think so too.

Anita:  What are you going to do on the weekend?

Marcia:  On Friday I’m going to take a bath and read

              a novel.  On Saturday and Sunday I’m going to go out with my fiancé.
