To use this ESL writing activity, simply print out the story before and pass it out to each of your students. After they write two or three sentences, have them pass their story to the person on their right, and continue doing this until the story returns to the first writer. The stories will inevitably get a little silly, but this is a good way to teach ESL writing in an interactive manner while also reinforcing reading and comprehension skills.

The Broken Rainbow
It rained so hard that I couldn’t see anything. Then suddenly, when the rain stopped, I looked out the window. I saw a rainbow, but this rainbow was different – the colors were all wrong! Then I looked around and noticed that all of the colors were different!
