In this ESL grammar exercise, students practice comparing two things using “as [adjective] as”.
ESL Grammar: What is the “As Adjective As” Structure?
The “as adjective as” structure is used to compare two things that are equal in a specific quality. It helps you show that one noun is not better or worse, but equal in some way to another noun.
Structure:
- Noun 1 + Verb + as + Adjective + as + Noun 2
Examples:
- Tall → as tall as: The giraffe is as tall as the elephant.
- Smart → as smart as: Tom is as smart as Jerry.
- Fast → as fast as: The bicycle is as fast as the scooter.
The English grammar lesson below reinforces the comparative structure of “as adjective as” in a clear and simple manner that is easy for beginner or intermediate English learners to understand. Our series of ESL grammar lessons on subjects and verbs introduce these concepts and reinforce them through helpful and instructive exercises.
