ESL Grammar: COMPARATIVE ADJECTIVES (14) – “not as adjective as”

This ESL grammar lesson introduces the pattern “not as adjective as” to compare two nouns. Students then practice filling in the blanks with “not as adjective as” to complete various sentences.

ESL Grammar: What is the “Not as Adjective as” Structure?

The “not as adjective as” structure is used to compare two nouns to show that one has less of a certain quality than the other. It’s a useful way to indicate that something is not as good, big, or any other quality compared to something else.

Structure:

  • Noun 1 + Verb + not as + Adjective + as + Noun 2

Examples:

  • Tall: The tree is not as tall as the building.
  • Interesting: The book is not as interesting as the movie.
  • Fast: The bicycle is not as fast as the car.

The English grammar lesson below introduces the comparative adjective structure “not as adjective as” in a clear and simple manner that is easy for beginner or intermediate English learners to understand. Our series of ESL grammar lessons on subjects and verbs introduce these concepts and reinforce them through helpful and instructive exercises.
