ESL Grammar - Tenses

ESL Grammar: FUTURE TENSE (7) – “going to” #2

In this ESL grammar exercise, students practice constructing future tense sentences with both “will/won’t” and “going to.”

ESL Grammar: Forming the Future Tense with “Going To”

To talk about future plans or intentions, we use “going to” followed by the base form of the verb. Here are some examples:

  • I am going to visit my friends next weekend.
  • She is going to start a new project tomorrow.
  • They are going to travel to Italy next month.

The English grammar lesson below gives students several chances to form future tense sentences with both “will/won’t” and “going to.” Our series of ESL grammar lessons on subjects and verbs introduce these concepts and reinforce them through helpful and instructive exercises.

This lesson is available for free download, and you can download many more English grammar lessons focusing on basic English tenses (present tense, present continuous tense, past tense, future tense) in our comprehensive, beginner-level ESL grammar textbook Great, Great Grammar! (Book 2: Tenses).
