ESL Grammar: Forming the Present Continuous Tense with “Be” Verbs

To form the present continuous tense, you need to use the appropriate form of the verb “to be” (am, is, are) followed by the base verb + -ing.

Structure:

  • Affirmative: Subject + am/is/are + verb + -ing
    • I am eating.
    • He/She/It is eating.
    • We/You/They are eating.
