VOCAB LIST: Types of Government Systems

 

democracy – a form of government in which the citizens have the power

republic – (similar to a democracy) a form of government in which the citizens elect representatives to make decisions

monarchy – a form of government in which a king or queen is the leader

dictatorship – a form of government in which a single person (the dictator) has complete control over the country and makes the decisions

theocracy – a form of government in which the country is ruled by religious authorities

capitalism – an economic system based on private ownership of property

socialism – an economic system based on shared ownership of property

communism – a system of government in which the state controls the economy
